Life in general can become disheartening. Especially these days. It seems as though this world is in a ‘hard boil’ and getting hotter and I’m not referring to the climate either. It can be challenging everyday just to ‘get through’ the day and do what you are supposed to do. And I don’t know if it’s just me, but the business climate can be just as difficult and stifling. At times this year, I have been frustrated with both. So how do we cope with it all? Well, there is a wonderful, simple little book written by Jon Gordon and Damon West, called The Coffee Bean, that may give us a glimpse into that answer. The essence of this book and the lesson to learn is profound. When ‘life’ is percolating all over you, don’t be weakened or softened by it. And on the flip side, don’t let life harden you. Rather, be like the coffee bean. When life French Presses you, take the opportunity to let your aroma fill up the atmosphere around you. My take is to be a blessing and allow people around you to be refreshed by your steeping transformation. Instead of the environment we find ourselves in changing us, take the initiative and you change the environment! The essence of the coffee bean comes out in the heat of the brewing water. Be like the coffee bean.
